Sea Pines Resort SEA PINES RESORT. Home to the famous red and white candy striped lighthouse, Sea Pines is considered one of the top resorts in the country according to Travel and Leisure magazine. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and Calibogue Sound, Sea Pines occupies more than 5,000 acres of Hilton Head Island, with sweeping vistas of sea marshes, five miles of beach and maritime forests with palmettos, pines and live oak trees. It is home to 30 species of mammals, 133 types of birds, 11 fish, 37 reptiles, 20 amphibians and various other creatures. Sea Pines Resort plays host the PGA's Heritage Classic golf tournament at the Harbour Town Golf links and is considered by many as one of the finest golf resorts on the East coast with its three courses within the plantation. GOLF Heron Point is the newest addition to the resort. Golfers today are looking for a new challenge. To that end, Pete Dye was given a multi-million dollar budget and a green light to do almost anything he pleased in transforming the old Sea Marsh golf course into a new work of art with teeth.Fairways have been restructured to feature dramatic angles and shifting elevations, while surfaces feature a mix of sand, mulch, limestone and various grasses to present a diverse and stunning landscape. Pete Dye is famous for offering risk and reward shots and you're sure to find plenty of opportunities on this remarkable course. The Ocean Course was built in 1960 and was the first golf course on Hilton Head Island to be designed by George Cobb who also renovated the legendary Augusta National. It was restructured in 1995 by touring pro Mark McCumber who brought more water hazards and bunkers into play. The course represents a true classic resort golf experience and has been awarded "Beginner Friendly Course Certification" from the National Golf Course Owners Association. Its signature hole is the par-3, 15th where the elevated tee offers a sweeping view of the Atlantic Ocean. BEACH CLUBS In season, have lunch at the snack bar or stay for a casual dinner at the Surf Side Grill, the only outdoor oceanfront restaurant on the Hilton Head Island. Kick back at the best beach bar on the Island and sip on your favorite cold beverage as pelicans glide overhead during the day, or come back at night and enjoy live entertainment as the moon rises over the ocean. At the Sea Pines Beach Club you'll find a beach shop for forgotten necessities, restrooms and changing facilities. If you're looking to enhance your beach activities, talk with the lifeguards at Shore Beach Service, Inc. to rent umbrellas and chairs, body boards, aqua cycles, fun cycles, banana peels, paddle skis and sailboats! They are on site and open 7 days a week from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, late March to mid October. Call 843-785-3494. Biking Shopping, Dining, and Nightlife South Beach Marina is reminiscent of an old Cape Cod village and is a great way to relax and get the true feeling of Lowcountry living. Live music, outdoor dining, and plenty of shopping will make for a memorable vacation. Horseback Riding and Petting Zoo |
