When planning a vacation to Hilton Head Island, or anywhere for that matter, determining what to pack is one of the most challenging parts. Once you get the clothes sorted out, you may be at a loss when trying to figure out what else to bring along. We’ve come up with a list of 10 items no Hilton Head vacationer should be without. We suggest printing this list and checking off the items as you pack them!

1.       A smart phone or tablet
It may seem like a no-brainer to bring your smartphone or tablet with you to Hilton Head Island, but we suggest you download a few apps before you arrive. We recommend downloading a Hilton Head guide app to help with directions and ideas of things to see and do on the Island. Brining children? Download some games to keep them occupied during travel time. Find an app for regular or audio books, and download one or more of our suggested beach reads.

2.       Beach gear
If you plan on spending many of your vacation days on the beach, we recommend packing some beach chairs, umbrellas, beach towels and anything else that you may want for a fun day at the shore. If you have kids with you, bring some beach toys, and pails for making sand castles!

3.       Sportswear
In addition to your everyday clothing, we recommend bringing along some sportswear, as there are tons of activates on Hilton Head that keep you moving. Think whites for tennis, spiked shoes and polos if you plan on playing golf, and work out wear for yoga on the beach!

4.       A big appetite
This one is important, but luckily, it takes up no luggage space! Hilton Head is filled with all kinds of restaurants serving up delicious food. While visiting be sure to check out some of the Lowcountry specialties like catfish stew and shrimp and grits.

5.       Golf clubs
Hilton Head is home to over twenty golf courses and is truly a golfer’s paradise. Most clubs do offer club rentals, but if you can swing it, we recommend bringing your own. Golfing with your own clubs can help put you at ease on a new golf course.

6.       A cooler
Whether your bringing food to the beach or to a picnic in the park, a cooler will help keep your foods cold, and safe from harmful bacteria. Throw a couple of icepacks into a soft-sided cooler and you’ll be good to go.

7.       Spices and seasonings
If you plan on doing lots of cooking while on vacation, bring along some of your favorite spices to add a little extra flavor to the local goodies you’ve picked up for dinner.

8.       Sun protection
The sun is usually shining in Hilton Head, so be sure to protect yourself from UVA and UVB Rays. Bring plenty of sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher. Hats also provide great protection from sun exposure.

9.       Ziploc bags
When traveling to and from Hilton Head, store your liquid toiletries in Ziploc bags. This way, if they spill, the liquid won’t get all over your clothes. Ziploc bags are also great for storing dirty clothes when traveling home, or when traveling to and from the beach or pool with a wet swimsuit.

10.   Duct tape
Never leave for a trip without packing a small roll of duct tape with you! It can hold together a piece of broken luggage, waterproof a shoe that got a hole in it, act as a temporary hem for a dress that’s too long, it can remove lint and much more. The uses are practically endless.
