As locals we do realize how lucky we are to live and play on an island that most people could only dream about. Visitors wait all year for their week of fun, we have the opportunity to enjoy it on any given day!
As a mom to two young children I try my hardest to get out and see the island through their eyes. A simple trip to the beach or walk in a preserve is an adventure and a learning opportunity.
This weekend we decided to enjoy a sunny mid 60’s Sunday in Harbour Town Marina. Harbour Town is the iconic symbol of Hilton Head, you can’t visit the island and not put it on your ‘must see’ list. The playground is a favorite of ours and always the first stop! After an hour of watching them run around and climb the tree house/pirate ship 50 times its time for lunch. This week we opted for Crazy Crab Restaurant…an island favorite since 1984. We also love the Harbour Town Bakery and Café for a lighter lunch, pastry, or a hot cup of coffee.
After lunch we ventured down to the beach just under the lighthouse. You can always find interesting shells and you never know what kind of wildlife will make an appearance. Walking on the pier you’ll get an amazing view of the Calibogue Sound, Daufuskie Island and the world famous Harbour Town Golf Course. If your family is anything like mine you’ll make your way over to the Cinnamon Bear to pick your favorite flavor of ice cream to enjoy under the sun on one of the bright red rocking chairs. If you need a souvenir or something nice for yourself there are several adorable and locally owed gift shops to peruse.
There aren’t too many better ways to spend a morning than at Harbour Town. Stay tuned for our next Island Adventure!
